Introducing Comet by Perplexity - the new wave of AI
Comet: The Revolutionary New Web Browser Set to Transform How We Browse
So I woke up this morning and logged in for my morning sprint - and an invitation was waiting for me. There’s a buzz in the world of tech, and it’s all about the Comet web browser. Launched in July 2025 by Perplexity AI, Comet has made quite a splash as the very first browser built entirely around artificial intelligence and “agentic browsing.” But what makes Comet so special, and when can we expect everyone to get their hands on it here in the UK?
What Is Comet?
For me, it's pulling together my favourite research tool plus my most commonly used toolkit. Comet isn’t just another competitor in the browser wars - it’s a whole new way of navigating the internet. It’s built atop the familiar Chromium engine (so Chrome users will feel right at home) but supercharged with a built-in AI assistant that acts as your digital thought partner. Forget the days of piling up endless tabs and switching between browser windows. Comet streamlines everything, integrating research, shopping, scheduling, summarising, and more - right into the browsing experience.

What Can It Do?
Some of Comet’s standout features include:
A fully integrated AI assistant that can summarise emails, manage your calendar, and even navigate web pages for you.
“Agentic browsing,” meaning you can ask Comet to perform complex web tasks, like searching for deals or booking appointments, and it’ll handle all the legwork.
Lightning-fast speed and effortless setup—import your bookmarks, extensions, and settings from Chrome in moments.
Built-in privacy features like native ad-blocking and workflow automation that reduces time wasted on repetitive online tasks.
Smart migration support from Chrome or Edge, so you don’t lose your customisations and extensions.
A New Direction for Browsers
Comet is designed for people who expect more from their time online - whether you’re a busy professional, a researcher, or someone who just wants to spend less time fiddling with settings and more time getting things done. It’s about turning the web into a workspace as intelligent and responsive as you are, blending your local resources and cloud-based AI for privacy without sacrificing power
When Will Comet Be Fully Launched in the UK?
So it looks like due to my business model, I have been selected to check this out for free - so it may not be available to you yet. As of now, Comet is in a limited release phase. It launched on 9th July 2025 and is currently only available to Perplexity’s “Max” subscribers - a pricey early adopter crowd at $200 USD per month. For everyone else, Comet offers a waitlist, and the company has hinted that a broader release (including free access) is on the horizon, but there’s no official public rollout date just yet. The CEO has assured users that invitations will widen soon and that Comet will eventually be free to use, but patience is still required for the general public in the UK and beyond.
Final Thoughts
If you’re curious about the future of AI-powered browsing and want to be first in line for the next big thing, it’s worth signing up for Comet’s waitlist. Otherwise, keep your eyes peeled - because with pioneering features and the backing of major investors, it’s likely only a matter of months before Comet is available to download by all.
For now: the future of browsing may just be arriving sooner than we think.
I will do further videos on this - with a more in depth look, soon.
As always - keep innovating people!
